Yule 2024

Field Trip edition!

Two Options:

Fri Dec 20th 7pm

Sat Dec 21st 6pm

What is Yule?

Yule is our coziest of holidays, marking the longest night of the year and celebrating the winter solstice with gift exchanges, music, merriment, and deep reflection.

2024: Field Trip Edition!

This year we are excited to present two "field trip" options to local pagan rituals celebrating Yule in our area. We encourage SCC members and celebrants to attend either (or both!) of these events, and look forward to seeing your beautiful faces there!

We hope that visiting other pagan groups, instead of hosting our own event, will provide the opportunity to strengthen our ties with our local communities, meet new and old friends, and give our organizers some much-needed rest before the next season.

The two events are both associated with local area CUUPS (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans) organizations:

    • Reston Virginia CUUPS
      • Friday December 20th 7pm
      • Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston - 1625 Wiehle Avenue - Reston, VA 20190
      • No cost
      • Yule Facebook Event
      • Reston CUUPS website
      • Event Description: "Join us in the sanctuary for our Yule Ritual. Potluck to follow."

    • Frederick Maryland CUUPS
      • Saturday December 21st
      • 6PM: Potluck
      • 7PM: Winter Solstice Ritual
      • Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick - 4880 Elmer Derr Rd, Frederick, MD 21703
      • No cost
      • Yule Facebook Event
      • Frederick CUUPS website
      • Event Description: "We gather to celebrate the return of light and warmth, to find comfort and joy in traditions old and new, and to feel the embrace of community as we greet the longest night of the year.

Our celebration will begin with a warm drink and a crackling fire to keep away winter’s dark and chill. We’ll move into the cozy lights and warmth of the gathering hall, where we will share company, stories, and songs that remind us of the enduring spirit of light even in the darkest of times.

We invite you to bring your favorite savory or sweet finger foods and drinks for light refreshments and socialization before the ritual.

You may also bring a previously loved but now underused magickal tool for the Used Magickal Gift exchange, and help your treasures find a new home. Bring your wrapped magickal tool (physical items only - no services, no books) and label it if it is specific to one particular Path in paganism. You may also include a note if you’d like the next owner to know anything about the item.

If your gift goes onto the “$10-$30 value” or “over $30 value” table, you get to pick a new-to-you present up from the same table before you go! We’ll also have a “Free To A Good Home” table; any items placed there must be collected by their owners if they are not claimed.

Children of all ages are welcome! They will join the community for the beginning of the ritual, then enjoy a separate children's activity. Please RSVP your kids to help us plan sufficient childcare: FrederickCuupsKids@gmail.com"

COVID-19 and our Community Health Policy:

We require all attendees to adhere to SCC's health policy, which is outlined here. More event- and venue-specific policies are viewable in the event registration page.
