Eclipse Magic Weekend

April  6 - 9, 2024

Grand Valley, PA

Info
Register

Join Stone Circle Council for a magical weekend of watching the total Solar Eclipse.  Geographical viewing areas are limited, so we will be traveling north towards Lake Erie. It will be *cold* with probable overnight lows in the 30s and daily highs likely not more than 55.  Our venue, therefore, will be hotel-style!

The weekend will include outdoor viewing of almost 2 full minutes (1m52s) of totality.  We will be including beverages, meals, and snacks for the weekend in registration!

The weekend will lead to ample opportunities to connect, relax, do magic, learn some things, and witness something that won't be back in the States for the next 20 years! That's the basics!

Registration is open!

Beltane

April 26 - 24, 2024
Stonesong Center
Flintstone, MD

Info

Join us at Stonesong Center for Beltane 2024. Activities will include workshops, bardic circles, fire ceremonies, wreath and ribbons, the raising of the Maypole, and our annual Spring Town Hall meeting. A meal plan will also be offered.

We are looking for volunteers to help plan this year's Beltane. If there is a workshop or activity you are passionate about, please reach out to the admins!

Registration will open in late winter/early spring.

SFG 2023 Feedback (So Far)

In the past few months since Stones Family Gathering 2023, the Officers have been reaching out to the community to gather feedback about the event: what went well, what didn't go well, and what we can improve in the future. We’ve received a fantastic amount of feedback from the community, and sincerely appreciate the time, effort, and care that went into sharing your thoughts with us.

We wanted to provide an update on our progress reflecting on SFG, and share some of what we've heard so far.

How we've gathered feedback:

  • SCC Town Hall meeting on 9/14/2023

  • SFG feedback session on 9/24/2023

  • Stone work technical retrospective on 11/5/2023

  • Community Survey sent on 10/2/2023

  • Individual outreach and collecting feedback from social media (Facebook and Discord) (ongoing)

Top themes in constructive feedback so far:

  • The shortened timeline for the event, plus the lack of stone prep time (work weekends), short intensive, and the amount of labor itself in the trilithon, meant the event felt very rushed for many attendees.

  • The venue presented new challenges: accessibility issues traversing the hills, tricky meal options, a larger space where we had trouble connecting with each other, and other issues.

  • Limited successes with streaming to virtual attendees made our online attendees feel disconnected.

  • Lack of safety training in general, and adherence for attendees for stone pulling

  • Thoughts about the timing of SFG- whether it might be time to consider a slow, planned move to a different weekend.

  • Overwork of folks doing close stone work, and how we can minimize that and share with the greater community.

Some positive themes from our feedback:

  • Even with challenges, the venue was beautiful, the food was tasty, and attendees loved swimming

  • The wedding was incredible, and a high point for many

  • Rituals were very thoughtful and beautiful (especially the lighting)

  • Pickle crew, as always, are the MVPs

  • As a community, many felt we really came together, supported and encouraged one another, and communicated with love and care throughout the challenges we faced.

What's next:

  • Stone work cultural retrospective (date in January TBD)

  • Sharing a set plan about what changes we're making for next SFG and beyond

As we begin preparing for SFG 2024, we will continue to be in touch with plans and strategies to ensure we have the best event we can! If you have any thoughts about the event, please share at our community survey still open (linked here: https://forms.gle/NYrUgrMBAeQZsfME6), or email admin@stonecirclecouncil.org.
