Work Weekend

This weekend's goals:

Full Equipment and Storage Unit Inventory
Building/organizing shelving to maximize space in the storage unit
Tool maintenance
Rope-work for the rollers and pull lines

Rough Schedule:

Friday: arrival, storage unit tour, Dinner
Saturday: Breakfast, Storage Unit Session, Break, Storage Unit Session 2, Dinner
Sunday: Breakfast, check out of Airbnb, Storage Unit Session, hugs and goodbyes!

FAQ:

What's a work weekend?

Any weekend-long event where folks come together to accomplish a SCC-related goal, typically involving some manual labor. Work weekends are much more relaxed and informal than most SCC events, and typical attendance runs from 5-15 people.

Past activities have included:

stone work, like checking on a risen Stone after the concrete's done curing
land stewardship, like chopping deadfall for firewood, or removing multiflora rose
improving site access by tending to paths and stairways
and of course, the occasional swimming and s'mores break

How much does it cost to attend?

Tickets are free! These weekends aren't as much of a "production" as typical SCC events, and we are not going to make you pay to volunteer for us. That said, sometimes there is a suggested donation to whoever is cooking to cover the cost of ingredients. If you want an accommodation other than what SCC has booked, you will need to pay for that individually. If there is a financial barrier that is keeping you from coming, email admin@stonecirclecouncil.org and we'll work something out.

Where will I sleep?

This year will be located at a shared home rental in Hagerstown, MD, not far from the SCC storage unit.

The house features 2 full bathrooms and 3 bedrooms, for a total of:

4 single beds

1 Sofa

1 Queen Bed

1 Double Bed

1 Double Airmattress

Plus extra room for bring your own air mattresses, or ability to sleep on a smaller sofa, suggested sleeping capacity of 11 people, but can squeeze more as needed.

Home Rules: Absolutely no smoking

How will I eat?

Typically one (or a few!) members of the group will cook for the rest, and/or we will have a potluck-style meal plan. If you have food allergies, make sure to note them on your registration, so the cook(s) know how to keep you safe.

Lughnasad 2026 (Friday, July 31, 2026)

Join us for our Annual Lughnasad Celebration

In Celtic mythology the god Lugh established the festival as a feast, with games commemorating his foster-mother Tailtiu. We will be celebrating in much the same fashion as a tribute to Lugh and a celebration of the harvest.

Wait, Games?

This year we are hosting an all-virtual, totally free Lugh that lets us take advantage of all the games that an online platform has to offer! Party games, Jackbox games, Zoom charades, Gartic phone, pictionary, quiz games, and more!

We'll also have a variety of our favorite online activities, include crafting together, socializing time, bardic, and other good opportunities to connect with each other.

Event Details

The event will run virtually from Friday July 31 at 7pm to Sunday August 2 at 3pm. All times are EST.

Registration for the event is free, though we are accepting donations to the Sunshine Fund for other events and general donations!

FAQ:

What is the Intensive?

Raising stones takes a lot of work! More work, in fact, than we can fit into a long weekend. So some brave volunteers venture out to the site early, to get things ready for the rest of us. We call this prep work the "Intensive".

How much does it cost to attend?

There is no charge to attend! The Intensive is not an "event" like the Stones Family Gathering proper, and we are not going to make you pay to volunteer for us. If you want an accommodation other than what SCC has booked, you will need to pay for that yourself, but tenting on the Island is included in your registration.

Where will I sleep?

SCC has booked The Island group campsite for us. Bring your usual camping gear, and we'll set up a little village together.

If you would prefer indoor space in one of Buffalo Gap's cabins, there be space in the Slane's Knob and Sandy Ridge shared dorms for an additional fee per night.

How will I eat?

If you have food allergies, be sure to note them on your registration so the cook(s) know how to keep you safe. Two meals will be provided each day, breakfast and dinner, so bring along any snacks or additional food you will need for in between.
